Arthritis is a fairly common joint disease that usually affects people in the middle age group. The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis, which is a degenerative joint disease that results from a trauma to the joint or an infection in any joint of the body.
People with arthritis must take better care of their health and make sure they live a healthy lifestyle. People suffering from arthritis usually complain of pain, which, sadly, is a daily feature of this disease. The pain usually arises in the hip, knee, feet, back or neck of the person. These are the dos and don’ts of diet plan for arthritis:
- Fish oil, also known as Omega 3 fatty acids is highly beneficial for reducing arthritis. Include salmon, tuna, any kind of nuts and plenty of fresh green leafy vegetables in your diet.
- Take plenty of fruits because they have essential vitamins, fiber and minerals. The most beneficial fruit for arthritis is strawberry, because it helps in decreasing inflammation of the joints, so make sure you include plenty of strawberries in your diet.
- Milk. Yes, we all know the benefits of milk, how it is good for the teeth and bones. But did you know that the calcium present in the milk is valuable for improving the joints and making them stronger? Hence, it is recommended that people with arthritis should increase their calcium intake.
- Cut down on the foods that increases the inflammation. The food that is prepared at a high temperature is deemed to be not good for people with arthritis.
- Avoid fatty foods or foods with too much cholesterol and saturated fat. These foods causes obesity and weight gain which puts much more pressure on the joints.
- Try to eliminate alcohol. Alcohol can be highly dangerous for people with arthritis because it has the potential to interact with the medications prescribed for arthritis.
- Try to consume foods from all four basic food groups, i.e. dairy products, breads and cereals, fruits and vegetables and meats. This ensures that you get your forty-plus important nutrients which keep you in good health.
- Avoid intake of excess salt (sodium) which can contribute to high blood pressure or water retention. It is better to steer clear of these conditions when suffering from arthritis. Make sure that your salt intake in foods is moderate.
